About this Tutorial:
Well Batch Rename .EXE features an abundance of features and even a fully-featured scripting module I only have time to cover a breif overview of the application. Mainly how-to add sequential numbers to your files and remove those pesky ‘_’ underscores. But that should be enough to get you started, and show you just how powerful Batch Rename .EXE can be in your renaming arsenal. You can additionally peruse SoftTech InterCorp’s other online tutorials for additional ‘how-to’ guides. (See: http://www.stintercorp.com/tutorial_br_index.php) – Though, most features are self-explanatory and are found in the application.

This tutorial will teach you how to:

Into:

Step 1:
The first step is acquiring and installing the necessary software. In our case we need to download and install Batch Rename .EXE which can be found at: http://www.stintercorp.com/br.php.

Step 2:
Now that we have the application installed we need to open it. Once opened the first screen we should see is the welcome screen. From here go ahead and click the next button, so we are now on the file selection screen. This is where we want to add all the files we wish to rename. So go ahead and add the files that you wish to rename to the list. My preferred method of adding files is simply selecting the files I want to rename in Windows Explorer (My Computer/My Documents) then dragging and dropping them into the file list.

Once we have all the files added, go ahead and click 'next'. This will take use to the rename settings dialog.

Step 3:
This is where the magic happens. You'll first notice 6 combo boxes under the 'file naming' caption. The two boxes we are interested in are the ones at the top. First we will select the first combo-boxes option '{2 Digit Serial Number}'. Then we will type '- NASA Imagery –' in the second box. (See screenshot.). Last but not least we want to remove the ‘_’ underscores which we can do by checking to options: Allow Spaces and Replace _ with Spaces. That all there is to it!

Now Click Next >

Step 4:
We are now on the review settings dialog. The only thing you need to do on this screen is check over the preview area and make sure the files are going to be renamed like you wish. If everything seems okay, go ahead and click finish >. The files will then be renamed and you have saved countless hours of manually having to remove all that unwanted information. In this example we only modified 5 files, however Batch Rename .EXE supports renaming thousands of files; and can even do so across multiple directories.
